Full Length US-version of Atoll “K.” (100 minutes)
Andreas Baum from Germany writes... Cornerstone Media is distributing "Atoll K." on DVD the first time ever uncut. It is made from the only available film print (in 16mm) of the complete US-version in a length of appr. 100 minutes. It is the "Director´s Cut" before it was edited down to the "Utopia-version" of around 80 minutes. The master-material was digitally remastered/overworked which took more than 300 hours in a professional studio to get the best possible picture and sound out of it. The language of the film is English, with German subtitles available. There is an introduction with information about the movie, the shooting etc. in English language by famous US-Actor/Comedian Bart Williams, who is a friend of the Laurel family and also available by Maddin Schneider in German language, a well known German comedian. We have spent a lot of time to make the sound better and to get the dubbed voices as lip-sync as possible: so we had to cut most of the spoken sentences and to move it some frames or even seconds to make it fit better to the moving lips of the actors (they did a horrible job back in the 50's while dubbing this version.
Concerning the "original version" of Atoll K:
As it was a French-Italian and US-co-production one can debate what the original version is. One can say that there are 3 original versions: the French version, the Italian version and the US-version. BUT: as Laurel & Hardy are the stars of the movie, one might also say that the US-version with the real voices of the boys in English is the original version (also because it is the longest one).
Concerning the quality of the picture: there is worldwide no better master available.
The price is GBP 9.99 or $ 17.99 or € 12,99 plus shipping. Here:
NEW BEHIND THE SCENES FOOTAGE DISCOVERED - From the archives of George Mann
On location with Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy during the making of "Should Married Men Go Home." George Mann of the comedic dance act Barto and Mann shot the film or handed his camera to someone else to shoot.
The international documentary is presenting - besides a lot of funny clips from the best Laurel & Hardy movies - a look behind the scenes and never before published color footage of Stan & Babe and a lot of private photographs, recently discovered archive footage of Laurel & Hardy, rare or unpublished film stills, posters etc.
The documentary was shot on location in the USA, Great Britain, France, Italy, Austria, Netherlands and Germany.
The film is presenting interviews with Laurel & Hardy experts like Hal Roach, Lucille Hardy-Price, Richard W. Bann, Tyler St. Mark, Bart Williams, Chuck McCann and Jim MacGeorge, Phillis Coates, Mark Greenhow or Jean Darling and friends of Stan & Babe like Booth Colman, Jerry Lewis or Marcel Marceau.
Even Stan Laurels daughter Lois Laurel Hawes has given the author an exclusive interview. That way the documentary is telling very emotionally the story of the worldwide most beloved comedy team: the story of THEIR LIVES AND MAGIC.
This documentary was broadcasted with a running time of 90 minutes very successfully in Germany and France on tv at the beginning of the year at prime time and got a very positive feedback.
Now the author is presenting his 15 minutes longer Director´s Cut as well as 70 minutes of unpublished bonus features.
